June 2022 Meeting

The chairman Bill Squires spoke of the funeral he and others attended of David Collins who recently passed away . David was a regular member who always attended with his father Dennis. He died suddenly  and will be missed by the club. and our thoughts were with Dennis and his family.

This months meeting consisted of 2 halves, the first half was the first of the 3 table shows for  the ongoing yearly table competition. This consists of 3x table shows of 3 classes over the year, during which members are awarded cumulative over the three shows. The member with the most points wins the Trophy. At total of 29 birds were entered for the 3 classes of Any Pied, Any Spangle and Any other Colour. The birds were judged by our speaker, regular member Martin Frost. The partnership of Bill and Steve Squires took most of the nights points with 2 stunning Birds a Pied Cock and a Spangle Cock.

The second half consisted of a nice causal talk by Martin Frost  who described how as a boy he got into the budgie hobby he has been in for over 50 years . Martin’s first encounter was as a young boy when he managed to capture a budgie that was loose on near a beach he visited with his family. He then bought another bird to keep it company and was then hooked. Martin was a keen exhibitioner as a juvenile and worked hard to buy birds from local breeders. He made many contacts when he worked in a pet shop. Martin was a keen member of the South Essex club. On  occasions he  would cycle to his meetings carrying 2 show  cages in a wooden box. Martin has won many CC’s and top awards over the years. Over the years he has also been a keen keeper of racing pigeons and had success racing his birds. The night was  pleasant informal chat and Martin was thanked for stepping up to keep the members entertained.
