June 2026 Meeting and BBQ

IPSWICH B.S. JUNE MEETING                                                   by Ghalib Al-Nasser

Despite the heat wave that we experienced in June, members turned out to support the guest speaker of the month who is non-other than our club member Andy Brooks. The chairman, Ghalib Al-Nasser, introduced Andy as joining the Budgerigar Society in 2018 and during the past years has won many section awards but non-better than last year when, as a novice, he won best young bird in show at the Ipswich gold championship show and registered two lutino colour champion birds during the year.

Andy informed members that he started in the hobby as a young boy when his father built him a small shed. He reminisced about fanciers from the past who some members knew and how they helped him but he had to give up the hobby due to work and family till he started again in 2018. He liked the lutinos and bred a few quality birds in that variety which enabled him to win many challenge certificates for lutinos.

At his first show of this season, the South Midlands area championship show, he won both intermediate sections and 4 challenge certificates.

A few days later, members and partners gathered together for the annual BBQ at Sandra Stevens’ house, which was enjoyed by all. President Martin Frost made a floral presentation to Sandra for all her work for the society.

The society’s gold championship show, titled the Peter Stevens Memorial Show, will be held on 26th July at Great Blakenham Village Hall. Schedules were posted to all the past two years exhibitors. Judges engaged are a team from Cornwall: Mark Gulley, Brian Reese & Maurice Roberts. For more information contact the chairman at (ghalib.alnasser@gmail.com or 07886 2257833).
