Prior to introducing the guest speaker, the chairman, Ghalib Al-Nasser, congratulated two members of the society namely Alan Baker for reaching the milestone of becoming a Life Member of The Budgerigar Society after 40 years continuous membership. Also, to Janice Al-Nasser and Beverley Hutt who were inductees to The Budgerigar Society Hall of Fame for services to the fancy at their recent AGM.

 

The chairman then introduced the guest speaker Mick Widdowson saying that Mick is a stalwart of his area society the Lincolnshire & East Anglia since he joined in 1962 but it was 10 years later when he joined the Budgerigar Society. Mick has been a judge since the 1980s and secretary of his area society the LEA for many years. He was past chairman of the old Crested Budgerigar Club and maintain a successful exhibition stud of budgerigars.

 

Mick explained that the reason to why he joined the B.S. some 10 years later is because of the rules in those days is that you were not allowed to keep your birds in another establishment and when he was able to do so after marriage and settling in he joined the B.S.

 

The first part of the evening was devoted to our society running the LEA area show this July and the deal that the LEA can offer. After exchange of positive views an amicable agreement was reached between the two parties for the way forward.

 

The second part of the evening was devoted to a question and answer session and how Mick started with the crested & slate varieties and improved their size by pairing them to the normal varieties.
