June 2024 Meetings

IPSWICH B.S. JUNE MEETINGS                                                     by Ghalib Al-Nasser

The society held two successful meetings during June with 4 days apart. First, it was the monthly meeting on Thursday evening attended by Ronnie Simpson from Leeds, Yorkshire as the guest speaker. In introducing Ronnie to the members, the society chairman, Ghalib Al-Nasser, said that Ronnie is an active fancier who contributed a lot to the fancy. He joined the Budgerigar Society in 1975 and a past president and holder of the Silver Bird. From 1994 till 2023 he was the B.S. club show secretary and current patronage administrator. Within his area society, the Yorkshire BS, Ronnie is currently the society secretary and show secretary and past president on 3 separate occasions. He is also holder of the YBS Golden Bird award over 3 separate occasions.

Mr. Simpson then gave a resume of his activities over so many years in the hobby saying that he devised the current computerised show program back in the early 1990s, with his friends “The 3 R’s”, that is used by many shows around the country and over the years he modified the program on a number of occasions to suit the current need. On the patronage side he introduced a number of initiatives like the League Table and the BIS Achievement Awards. He spends a considerable time in updating the B.S. website with show results and dealing with the rosette manufacturer to obtain the best deal for the B.S. He is now a retired B.S. judge but judged the B.S. club show during his presidential year in 2019.

Ronnie then judged the monthly competition and awarded BIS to the society president Peter & Sandra Stevens with a double factor spangle yellow cock. Michael Locking, the society secretary, was best novice.

The society also held their annual BBQ 4 days later at the president’s Farm and invited members of Cambridgeshire BS to join them in an inter-club competition. It was attended by many members and their families and the show attracted 12 exhibitors benching 84 birds. It was a very enjoyable day and our thanks are extended to the hosts Peter & Sandra Stevens.

Adrian Terheege judged the competition and awarded the BIS to a nice skyblue cock benched by Steven & Bill Squires who also won best young bird with a grey hen. Peter & Sandra Stevens won the best any age opposite sex with a cinnamon skyblue hen while Andy Brooks won best young bird opposite sex with a cobalt cock. The Ipswich BS won the points competition.
