The Ipswich BS hosted the Lincolnshire & East Anglia BS area championship show on their usual date in late July and it was a resounding success with a total entry of 578 from 37 exhibitors and 446 birds benched. Exhibitors came from many parts of the area society as well as from as far away as Sussex.
The judges, Gavin Carter, Michael Chapman, Brian Scott & Ian Standley,
selected a super double factor spangle yellow cock of Phil Reaney as the best any age and best in show.
They also selected the Terheege Partnership cobalt cock as the best young bird in show. Gary Simpson, the successful novice exhibitor from Cambridgeshire, won both opposite sex awards with an adult lutino hen and a young albino hen.
As always, the champion section had the highest entry with 317. The double factor spangle cock of Phil Reaney headed the any age section followed by a cinnamon skyblue hen of P & A Partnership
who also occupied third place with a yellowface cinnamon grey cock.
The Terheege Partnership cobalt cock headed the young bird section
followed by Chris & Anita Snell’s light green cock in second place.
Ghalib & Janice Al-Nasser were third with a grey cock.
Keith Campion won the intermediate any age section with a light green cock
and was third best with a grey cock.
John Gibbens was second best with a grey green cock and also won all the young bird section awards with a cinnamon light green hen, opaline green cock and opaline blue cock.
Gary Simpson won both novice sections with an adult cinnamon grey green cock and a young albino hen. Gary also won second and third best in the any age section with lutino hen and cinnamon grey hen while his recessive pied skyblue cock was second best young bird.
Michael Locking was third best with a light green cock.
Young Callahan Terheege won both junior sections with an adult light green cock and a young skyblue (challenge certificate winner) cock. His spangle skyblue cock was second best any age while Eliza Thorp was third best with an opaline white blue cock. Callahan dominated the young bird section winning best with his skyblue cock, second best with a cinnamon light green cock and third best with a yellowface skyblue cock.
There were six pairs entered and heading the class was Darren Dunnage with a pair of lacewing yellows. Andy Brooks won the team class of three with 2 pairs of lutinos.
There was a good entry of 62 in the colour budgerigar section benched by 8 exhibitors and Ghalib & Janice Al-Nasser won best colour budgerigar with an adult Texas clearbody light green cock
while Phil & Tracy Dye were second best with a cobalt cock. The best young bird also went to Ghalib & Janice with a half circular crest light green cock while Wayne Greening from Sussex was second best with a spangle light green hen.
There were 3 colour budgerigar pairs entered and the best was a pair of recessive pied skyblue benched by John Gibbens. There were 2 teams entered and Ghalib & Janice won the team class with 2 pairs of Hagoromo Texas clearbody light green.
