Ipswich Gold Open Show 2025

The Ipswich BS held its GOLD championship show late July and received a total entry of 485 from 31 exhibitors and 393 birds were benched. Exhibitors came from many parts of the area society as well as from as far away as Lincolnshire.

The judges, Steve & Michael Holland and Geoff Tillson, selected a quality cinnamon grey green cock of the P & A Partnership as the best any age and best in show

They also selected Andy Brooks’ lutino  cock as the best young bird in show.

The best any age opposite sex in show and best opposite sex overall went to Peter Barber’s cinnamon grey hen while the best young bird opposite sex award went to the Terheege Partnership with a cinnamon grey green hen.

As always, the champion section had the highest entry with 294 from 20 exhibitors. The cinnamon grey green cock of the P & A Partnership headed the any age section followed by the cinnamon grey hen of Peter Barber. Steve & Bill Squires occupied third place with a dominant pied cock. The Terheege Partnership’s cinnamon grey green hen headed the young bird section followed by Peter Barber’s skyblue cock in second place who also occupied third position with a grey green cock.

The daughter & mother partnership of Ginge1 & Blond1 Partnership dominated the intermediate section by winning all the awards. Their grey cock was best intermediate any age followed by a spangle grey cock and spangle grey green cock in second and third place. Their cinnamon grey green cock headed the young bird section followed by a spangle cinnamon grey hen in second place and a lacewing yellowface white hen in third place.

It was the turn of society members to win all awards in the novice sections. Darren Dunnage won the any age section with a spangle grey green cock while Dave Gardiner occupied the next two places with cobalt and cinnamon light green cocks. Andy Brooks won the young bird section with his lutino cock and was second best with a lutino hen. Dave Gardiner’s spangle green hen was third best.

Young Callahan Terheege won both junior sections with an adult skyblue cock and second best with a lutino hen. His spangle skyblue cock was best young bird while his cobalt cock was second best.

There were five pairs entered and heading the class was Ginge1 & Blond1 Partnership with 2 spangle grey cocks. Graham Barton won the team class of two with 2 pairs of light greens.

There was a good entry of 64 in the colour budgerigar section benched by 7 exhibitors and Rod & Sue Clarke won best colour budgerigar with an adult yellowface cobalt cock while John Gibbens was second best with a dominant pied violet hen. The best young bird went to Ghalib & Janice Al-Nasser with a Texas clearbody light green cock while Rod & Sue Clarke were second best with a yellowface cobalt cock.

There were 2 colour budgerigar pairs entered and the best was a pair of lutinoes benched by Ghalib & Janice. There were 2 teams entered and Ghalib & Janice won the team class with 2 pairs of blackface light greens.
